A wire is bent so as to form four sides of a square. A length of 4 cm is cut from it and the remainder is again bent to form the four sides of a square. If the difference in areas of square is 25 cm^2, how long was the wire before being cut?​

Answer:

Let x as side of the square so area of the square is x^2,total length of the wire is 4x

Now 4cms is cut from 4x,remaining length is 4x-4=4(x-1)cms length of the side is x-1)cms

Original area of square is x^2

After removing 4cms area of the square formed (x-1)^2=x^2–2x+1

Given the difference in areas of the square is 25cm2 So

x^2-x^2+2x-1=25

2x-1=25

x=(25+1)/2=13

So the length of the wire was 4*13=52cms
