Hey there,

We know that R = I

So, when the wire is cut into four equal parts, the resistance of each part is 1/4th of the original substance.

Hence,

R1 = R/4, R2 = R/4,

R3 = R/4, and R4 = R.4,

(b) When these 4 parts are joined in parallel, we get

1/R' = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 + 1/R4

1/R' = 4/R + 4/R + 4/R + 4/R = 16/R

R' = R/16

The joint resistance is now 1/16th part of the original resistance.

Hope this helps!
