Answer:

Let \: a \:  be \:  side  \: of  \: a  \: square ,l  \\ be  \: the  \: length \:  and \:  b \:  be \:  the  \: breadth  \\ of  \: rectangle

As length of wire is constant ,perimeter of both shapes would be same.

 \implies \: 4a = 2(l + b)

 \implies \: 40 = 2(12 + b)

 \implies \: b  = 18cm

 area \: of \: square \:  =  {a}^{2}  =   {10}^{2}  =  {100}cm

area \: of \: rectangle = l \times b

 = 12 \times 8 = 216 {cm}^{2}

 \implies \: area \: of \: rectangle \: is \: greater
