Given :

  • A wire is in the shape of rectangle
  • Length is 80cm and 20cm

To find :

  • Which shape encloses more area.

Solution :

Given that , if the same wire is rebent in the shape of square so ,

Now we have to convert rectangular wire to square and also length of wire will be same

  • Perimeter of rectangle = Perimeter of square

Now Rectangle :

  • Length of rectangle = 80cm
  • breadth of rectangle = 20cm

As we know that :

  • Perimeter of rectangle = 2(l + b)

➼ 2(80 + 20)

➼ 2(100)

➼ 200 cm

Now Square:

  • Let side be a

➼ Perimeter = 4a

Now,

  • Perimeter of rectangle = Perimeter of square

➼ 100 = 4a

➼ 100/4 = a

➼ 25 = a

➼ a = 25 cm

so, side of square is 25cm

Now we need to find that whose area is bigger :

Area of Rectangle:

As we know that :

  • Area of rectangle = l × b

➼ 80 × 20

➼ 1600 cm²

Area of square:

As we know that :

  • Area of square = a × a

➼ 25 × 25

➼ 625 cm²

Hence, Area of Rectangle is greater than Area of square

Answer:

1) let the rectangle length =l =40cm

breadth =b =22 cm

let the side of a square = a cm

if the same wire is rebent in the shape of a square then

perimeter of a square=perimeter of rectangle

4a=2(l+b)

4a =2(40+22)

4a =2*62

a =2*62/4

a=31 cm

therefore side of a square = a =31cm

2) area of the rectangle =l*b= 40*22=880 cm^2

3)area of the square=a^2 = (31)^2 =961 cm^2

therefore

area of the square is more
