the new resistance become 4 times its original resistance, when diameter of given wire is halved. a copper wire of resistivity r is streched to reduce its diameter to half of its previous value.

R inversely proportional to Area

area of wire = πr^2 d will reduce thus r will be half

1/2^2= 1/4 thus resistance will increase by 4
