A wire of given material having length 1 and area of cross section A has a resistance of 4 ohm. What would be the resistance of another wire of the same material having length 1/2 (half) and area of cross section 2A?

as R is directly proportional to length & inversely proportional to area.

Material is same so rho is constant.          In case 1 ,R proportional to length/area=1/A=4...(1).  In case 2 R¹=L/A=1/2/2A=1/4A(2). Substitute (1) in (2).R¹=4/4=1 ohm.
