A wire of length l, area of cross-section A, and material of resistivity p is cut into two parts in the ratio ratio 1:3 of length. Find the ratio of their (i) resistivity and (ii) resistance​

( i ) : Resistivity is a property of the material and will not be affected by the dimensions of the conductor. Thus it's ratio will be 1 : 1 .

( ii ) : We know that,

R = ρ (L/A)

So, as L changes, the resistance changes.

Hence, the resistance will be in the ratio of the length of the two parts, that is, 1 : 3 .
