given

⚡Resistance of wire = 1 Ω

its length is increased to twice its original length.

To find

New resistance

Solution

Let the original length be 'L' and original area be 'A'.

If the lenght is doubled then the -

new lenght= 2L or L'

new area= A/2 or A'

 \bold{Resistance=  \frac{ ρL }{ A} }

where,

ρ= resistivity

L = Length

A= area

Resistance (original ) = ρL /A.

Resistance (new) = ρL'/A'

Resistance (new) = ρ 2L / A/2

Resistance (new) = ρ 4L /A

Resistance (new)= 4 ( ρL/A)

Resistance(new) = 4 Restiance (original) [since ρL/A= R]

therefore, R'= 4R
