As resistance is directly propotional to the length and inversly propotional to the area of the wire.. therefore by melting area doesnt decreases and as per question length becomes half.. so resistance decreases and becomes half of the initial resistance.

=》R2=rho l/2a

By comparing both we get resistance becomes half.
