(a) With reference to the extraction of Aluminium. Answer the following

Name the substance and give one reason for the addition. i) Caustic alkali is added to bauxite, to dissolve bauxite ore and obtain a solution of sodium aluminate. iii) CaF2 adds along with cryolite and alumina.

3) Electrolysis of the alumina/cryolite solution gives aluminium at the cathode and oxygen at the anode. ... Oxygen reacts with the carbon anode to form carbon dioxide gas.
