a zygote develops into an embryo for the first 8 weeks. further into a foetus from eight weeks till the time of birth. major organ systems have been formed and starts functioning. foetus takes approx 40 weeks to grow into a baby. this is known as gestational period . from the mother through placent the foteus gets nourishment.
