Given:

A woman is rearranging her furniture set in the living room she pushed the sofa with 62 N of force to the left side. There is a force of friction acting on the sofa 12.3 N

To find:

Net force acting on the SOFA.

Calculation:

Friction is a dissipative force which always tries to prevent relative motion between two surfaces. In this case , friction will provide force opposite to the direction of applied force.

Let net force be F ;

 \therefore \:  \sf{F =  F_{applied} - friction}

 =  > \:  \sf{F =  62 - 12.3}

 =  > \:  \sf{F =   49.7 \: newton}

The net force will be directed towards left side.

So, final answer is:

 \boxed{\:  \sf{F =   49.7 \: newton \: towards \: left}}
