She checks the journey on a website.
The distance from her house to York is 80 miles.
20 miles of the journey are through roadworks with a speed restriction of 40mph.
She should drive the rest of the journey at an average speed of 50mph

Solution:

Time = distance/speed

Time taken for 20 miles = 20/40

= 1/2h = 1/2 * 60 mins = 30mins

Distance left = Total distance - distance covered = 80-20 = 60 miles

Time taken to cover 60 miles = distance for 60 miles / speed for 60 miles

= 60/50

= 6/5hr = 6/5 * 60mins = 6*12mins = 72 mins

Total time taken for journey = Time for 20 miles + time for 60 miles

= 30 + 72 mins

= 102 mins
