a woman weighing 50kgf stands on a weighing machine placed in a lift . what will be the reading of machine when lift is 1) moving upwards with uniform velocity of 5m/s and 2) moving downwards with a uniform acceleration of 1m/s^2 ? take g=10

Heya.......!!!

As we know that Weight ( W ) = Mg .
Here this is a case of moving lift . Two cases are described in your question :-
1 ) When the lift upwards with an uniform velocity of 5 m/s it's Acceleration ( a ) will be 0 .
=> W = m( g + a ) .
here a = 0 ,, So his apparent weight will be equal to his real weight that is reading in the machine will be = W = Mg = 50 × 10 =500 N .
2.) The lift is going downwards with an acceleration of 1 m/s^2 .
in this case his Apparent Weight will be :-
=> W = M ( g - a ) .
here a = 1 m/s^2 .
=> W = 50( 10−1 ) = 450N .
