moving from one end of the plank to the other

As we know that there is no external force on the system of man + plank

so the center of mass of the system will always remain at rest if the initial speed of the system is zero

so we can say that if man moves from one end to other end of the plank then the plank will shift other side by some distance "x"

now we will have

M_1 \Delta s_1 = M_2 \Delta s_2

60(10 - x) = 20 x

600 = 80 x

x = \frac{60}{8}

x = 7.5 m
