Answer:

A worker covers a distance of 40 km from his house to his place of work, and 10km towards his house back. So, the total distance covered by that worker is, 40 km from his house to his place of work + 10km towards his house back 40 + 10 = 50 km.

Given,

Covers a distance of 40km from house to working place.

Then, covers a distance of 10km towards his house back.

To find,

The displacement of the whole trip.

Solution,

We can simply solve this numerical problem by using the following process.

From the given data, it is obvious that the direction of the two parts of the journey are exactly opposite to each other. (house to working place, and ,working place to house)

That's why, we cannot add the distance covered in each cases to get the value of displacement. (if the directions were same, then addition was possible.)

In this case, we have to subtract the smaller covered distance from bigger covered distance, to get the displacement.

So,

Displacement = (40-10) = 30km

(Extra data : In this case, total travelled distance which is (40+10) = 50km isn't equal to the displacement.)

Hence, displacement of the whole trip is 30km
