A workman is paid rs 150 for each day he works and is fined rs50 for each day he is absent. In a month of 30 days he earned rs 2100.For how many days was he absent. Please show equation with working

Let the numbers of days he worked = x
Let the number of days he was absent = y

As already given in the question, x + y = 30
                                                     y = 30 - x ........... (1)

Since he worked for x days he will be paid = Rs. 150x
And since he was absent for y days, Rs. 50y will be deducted from the total.

Total money he earned = Rs. 2,100

Therefore,

150x - 50y = 2100
3x - y = 42  (  Dividing the equation by 50)

Using (1)
 3x - (30 - x) = 42
3x - 30 + x = 42
4x = 72
x = 18 days

30 - x = y
30 - 18 = y = 12 days

He worked for 18 days and was absent for 12 days.
