4

is heated in boiling tube, the water of crystallization is lost. The salt turns white.

However, again when crystals are moistened with water the blue color reappears. This is how they are interconvertible.

b)The chemical formula of Plaster of paris is CaSO4·½H2OIt is known as P.O.P. PreparationIt is prepared from gypsum. Gypsum is calcium sulphate dihydrate. The chemical formula of gypsum is CaSO4·2H2OPlaster of paris is prepared by heating gypsum to a temperature of 373K.
