a) Write the electronic configuration of Cu atom. Why half filled or fully
filled orbitals are more stable?
b) The mass of an electron is 9.1 x 10-28 g. If its K.E is 3.0 x 10-25 J, calculate
its wavelength in Angstrom.

Answer:

(a) The atomic number of Cu (Copper) is 29, and therefore it's electronic configuration is: 2,8,8,8,3.

Explanation:

Fully filled orbits are more stable, than the half filled orbitals. This is because the electrons in the valence shell are eager to complete their orbit i.e, if an electron has 2,8,3 electronic configuration so its electrons in the valence shell will give away those 3 electrons in order to complete its orbit as 2,8.

But if an electron has 2,8,8 as its configuration, it means its valence shell is already completed so it doesn't need to complete its orbit. So it will be more stable.
