He is your answer.

(a) To understand this let us take the example of calamine(ZnCO3)

Reaction involved in this:

ZnCO3(s) (when heated) —> ZnO(s)+ CO2(g)

Then, ZnO(s) + C(s) —> Zn(s) + CO(g)

So here zinc is extracted.

(b) Here comes the answer of (b).

Cu2S(s)+O2(g)(when heated)—> Cu2O(s) +SO2(g)

Then, Cu2O(s) + Cu2S(s) —> Cu(s)+SO2(g).

HOPE IT HELPS YOU.

Here is the steps involved in the extraction of pure metal in the middle of the activity series from their carbonate ores.

1) Convert it into metal oxide by heating it in the presence of limited oxygen.

2) Adding coke or carbon convert it into it's pure state by heating.

Hope this helps you!!!
