 \LARGE{ \underline{\underline{ \sf{Required \: answer:}}}}

24 ct Gold is the purest form of Gold available for our user. Apart from this, other forms of Gold are 22k, 18k, 15k etc. which are determined by the % of gold in the alloy with other metals.

Finding x:

In 22k, there are 22 parts of Gold out of 24. The percentage purity of Gold is:

 \rm{ \dfrac{22}{24}  \times 100}

This is nearly equal to:

91.7\%

So, the value of x i.e. % purity of gold in 22k is 91.7%

Finding y:

In 18k gold, there is 18 parts of Gold out of 24 parts of total alloy. Parts of Gold be

 \rm{ \dfrac{18}{24} }

y is the numerator of the fraction. So, y = 18.

The option that matches is Option (C) x = 91.7% and y = 18. And we are done! :D

Answer :

c) x = 91.7 % and y = 18.

Given :

carat. Parts purity

of gold in %

24 k = 24/24 = 99.99%

22 k = 22/24 = x

18 k = y =. 75

let's find :

x :- ( Percentage )

= 22/24 × 100

= 91.66 = 91.7

y :- ( parts of gold )

= that refers to the carat of gold given

= that is 18 so,

= 18/24

So, the values of x and y are 91.7 and 18.
