A year ago, Jean was three times as old as Midhun. A year later he was twice as old as Midhun. How old are Jean and Midhun? Pls answer with explanation.

Let Present age of Jean be J and mithun be M
! year ago,
(J-1)= 3(M-1)
⇒J-3M = -2_____(1)
also, 1 year later,
(J+1) = 2(M+1)
⇒J-2M = 1______(2)
subtracting (1) and (2),
M= 3
⇒M = 3
so, J = 7
∴Age of Jean = 7 years
Age of Mithun = 3 years

i mean, it is in the lesson linear equation with one variable
ok...then consider J=3M, this is for one year ago, than after one year, age will be (J+2)= 2(M+2), here 2 is added because we have counting from 1 year ago and then put the value, J=3M, you will get the ans :)
