Answer:

(I) A is acidic and B is basic.

(ii) Solution A has more H+ ion concentration as it acidic and breaks into H+ ions in aqueous solution.

(b) Hydrochloric acid is stronger acid because it contains more H+ ions and can completely dissociate into ions.

Answer:

(a)

(i) Acidic solution - Solution A

(Any solution having pH lower than

7 is acidic in nature.)

Basic solution - Solution B

(Solution having pH higher than 7 is

basic in nature.)

(ii) Solution A have higher H+ ion

concentration.

Because in pH scale, as H+ ion concentration increases, pH value decreases which means acidic solution will have a greater H+ ion concentration than a basic solution.

Hence, solution A will have higher

H+ ion concentration.

(b) HCl is a stronger acid than acetic

acid because HCl disassociates

completely in water and releases

more H+ ion in water whereas

acetic acid disassociates partially in

water and henceforth releases lesser

H+ ions in comparison with HCl.
