A young boy is driving a scooter at a fast speed of 120 kmph. Suddenly he sees a dead animal in the middle of a narrow lane and applies crash brakes to stop the scooter in a time of 15s. If the scooter comes to rest after the brake has been applied within 15s. What is the force applied by the brakes on the scooter. (Given : net mass of scooter and its rider is 160 kg) *

Explanation:

Here,

u = 120 kmph

= 120 × 5/18 m/a

= 20 ×5/3 m/s

= 100/3 m/s

v = 0 m/a

so, Retardation = (u -v)/t

= 100/3×15

= 20/9 m/s2

Therefore, Force applied

= ma

= 160 kg × 20/9 m/s2

= 3200/9 newton

= 355.56 N Approx

Answer:

Given,

Speed=20m/s,d=50m,retardation=5m/s

2

Let the ppossible reaction time be t

s

So the car moves 20tm And applied breaks with retardation 5m/s

2

So, the total distance under retardation is ≤50m

Thus the distance under the application of retardation =

2×5

20

−0

=s

⇒s

=40m

Therefore, 20t

s

+40≤=50⇒20t

s

≤50−40⇒20t

s

=10⇒t

≤0.5s
