A zinc plate was kept in a glass containers having CuSO4 solution.On examining it was found that the blue colour of the solution is getting lighter and lighter.After a few days, when the zinc plate was taken out of the solution, a number of small hole squire noticed in it.State the reason and give chemical equation of the reaction involved.

Here we see that there is a displacement reaction taking place

Zinc is more reactive than copper therefore displaces copper from its salt solution. The zinc from the plate turns the colour of the sulpahte solution colourless and the since the zinc has come from the plate, we can see small holes.

The reaction is :

Zn + CuSO4 -----> ZnSO4 +Cu
