Zinc is more reactive than copper. Hence, when a zinc plate is kept in a solution of copper sulphate, it slowly displaces copper from the solution and blue colour of the solution keeps fading away. Because of zinc going into solution as zinc sulphate a number of holes are seen in the zinc plate. The reaction is
Zn+CuSO4----->ZnSO4+Cu

displacement reaction

Here is your answer. ...

Displacement reaction takes place between Zn and CuSO4 solution.Zn being more reactive than copper, Zn displaces Cu from CuSO4 solution and Cu starts depositing on the plate. This is the reason why the blue colour of the solution(CuSO4 solution is blue in colour)  gets lighter and lighter and number of holes are notice.

  Zn + CuSO4 → ZnSO4 + Cu
