A zinc plate was put into a solution of copper sulphate kept in a glass container. Itwas found that blue colour of solution gets fader and fader with the passage of time. After few days when zinc plate was taken out of the solution , a number of holes were observe on it.

Zn + CuSO4 = ZnSO4 + Cu
The above reaction is an example of displacement reaction. Here Zn2+ ions being more reactive than Cu2+ ions displaces it and the blue colour of CuSO4 fades out.

(A) zinc is more reactive than copper. it displaces Cu from CuSO4 and hence copper gets deposited on zinc plate. (B) Zn+CuSO4 - ZnSO4 + Cu
