A Zinc rod is dipped in a blue coloured solution for sometime. The result of this experiment is shown below. Observe the picture and answer the following:

a) Which type of chemical reaction is shown in this picture?

b) Name the blue solution. Why does it fades after sometime?

When zinc plate is dipped copper sulphate solution,zinc sulphate is formed and copper is deposited on zinc strip.

Zn (s) +CuSO 4

(aq)→ZnSO 4 (aq)+Cu(s)

(Silver whitish) (Blue) (colourless) (Reddish brown)

This reaction shows that zinc is more reactive than copper as it displaces copper from its solution and zinc passes into solution as zinc ions and zinc sulphate solution is formed.
