A zinc rod is placed in 0.1 M aqueous solution of ZnSo4. HCL is added to this solution. Will there be evolution of H2 gas if the concentration of H+ ions in solution is 10 raise to power minus 6 at 25 degree celcius?

Answer:

H2 is doesn't evolve from solution

only o2 gas is evolved.

Explanation:

because on addition of Hcl to Zn rod dipped in znso4 solution then zn rod acts as anode .

here you can see that the type of ions present are zn+2,H+,OH-,SO4-etc, as per electrode potentials H+ and OH- ions are more reactive than respective cation and anions, as there is only anode is present OH- is come to anode and oxidized to form O2 gas at Zn rod.

hence H2 gas is not evolved.

hope you understand this.
