Zoo and botanical gardens are not protected areas unlike the wildlife sanctuaries and the national parks, they do not provide much protection for animals which are kept in captivity ie: away from their natural habitats like the arabian oryx, Californian Condor, etc

Many species including polar bears, tigers, lions, bears, elephants etc cannot survive in zoos or birds in botanical gardens.

Explanation:

These species of animals and birds needs more space to roam around for their survival. Tigers and lions cannot survive when they are captivated in cages. Elephants are large animals who need freedom to live on.

Birds, too have the right to fly freely in sky, not caged behind irons.
