  • Factorise  {a}^{2}  - 1 - 2x -  {x}^{2}

 {a}^{2}  - 1 - 2x -  {x}^{2}

 =  {a}^{2}  - (1  +  2x  +   {x}^{2} )

 =  {a}^{2}  -  {(x + 1)}^{2}

 = (a + x + 1)(a - x - 1)
