By the formula, (a+b)² = a²+2ab+b²

(a² + 2ab + b² -16) =  (a)² + 2*a*b + (b-4)²

= (a+b-4)² / a+b-4

= a+b-4 * a+b-4 / a+b-4

= a+b-4

( REASON : A+B-4 is present in both numerator and denominator thus it gets cancelled. )
