with 48/a and finding the value of 'a' then 'b' and so on.
But here's a different approach.
If a=x, and b=y, then we get the equations:
x²+y²=10² (equation of a circle), and
y= 48/x (equation of a rectangular hyperbola)
You can see from the intersection points that whatever be the case,
x+y=8+6 or -8-6, ie,
=14 or -14
