Writer Kiran Purandare, who is just 32 years old, was born and brought up in Mumbai.
Explanation:
- He did his schooling at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and graduated from the University of Mumbai with a degree in English. Now a resident of New York, Kiran’s first job after college was with a language education firm in Mumbai. He spent much of his time traveling to villages and towns to conduct classes for school children.
- When Kiran Purandare was young, he would write for hours and hours at a stretch. When he grew older, he would sit for hours and hours more. His writing never suffered for it. He was, quite simply, a wordsmith.
- Kiran Purandare has been a writer for long enough to know that writing is a solitary pursuit. But writing for a living has its own set of challenges and rewards that can’t be replicated in other fields. So when his editor at the Times of India, Anu Madgavkar, offered him a chance to write his memoirs, he stretched out to his heart’s content.
- And the results are all over his debut book The Caging of a Writer, an evocative account of his life and times, told through a series of essays.
