These lines in the poem are obtained from 'The Inchcape Rock'.

  • In this poem, the poet describes two characters who were opposite in terms of their personality.
  • The two characters are the good Abbot and Sir Ralph the Rover.
  • The story occurs at the North Sea in Scotland.
  • In the third stanza, the line that mentions 'He steers his course for Scotland's shore, it means that he is trying to save his life but his greed towards richness and money was at peak even when his life was at risk.
  • The stanza also mentions that Ralph, out of rage removes the bell which was placed in the Inchcape by Abbot so that as a sea-pirate, he can rob other ships.
  • Unfortunately, he was hit by the rock and his ship sank.
