A chemical group or family is a vertical corumn in the periodic table. Elements in the same
group tend to have a shared chemistry and exhibit a clear trend in properties with increasing
atomic number. The elements in group one of the periodic table (with the exception of
hydrogen) are known as the Alkali Metals while those in group two are known as Alkaline Earth
Metals. The Alkali Metal group includes the elements Lithium, Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium,
Caesium and Francium. The Alkaline Earth Metal group is comprised of the periodic table
comprises the elements Beryllium, Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium and Radium
Group 18 is a family of non-reactive chemical elements with similar properties called the Noble
Gases. These include the elements Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon and Radon.​
