If I was the Abbot of that era, then I would plant a lighthouse on Inchcape rock I think bell and lighthouse both together would be good as if one can't hear the sound of the bell due to the noise of Storm at least he can see the light and will get proper direction.

If I was the Abbot of that era then I would have done the following to save ships from crashing.
- I would have placed a bell on the buoy to alert and warn the ships early on to prevent ships from crashing into the Inchcape rock.
- I would have constructed a lighthouse and used a patrol boat to regularly patrol and warn the incoming ships from crashing in case of bad weather the lighthouse would have been very useful.
