If b is the mean proportion between a and c, we have to prove LHS=RHS -

  • If b is the mean proportion between a and c as given, it would imply - a/b = b/c = b²=ac        (1)
  • Left Hand Side = (a²)² +a²b²+(b²)² / (b²)²+b²c²+(c²)²
  • Right Hand Side = a²/c²
  • Therefore, (a²)² + a³c + a²c² / a²c² + ac³ + (c²)²   (substituting value of b² from 1)
  • a² (a²+ac+c²)  /  c² (a²+ac+c²) = a²/c² = Right Hand Side
  • Hence, proved.
