Yes. The author should have told the woman friend that he can't afford such expensive food.

Why the woman was ordering expensive food?

• The lady was selfish and did not care for the author.
• The author was really depressed as asparagus was very expensive.
• She was also rude towards him and embarrassed him for choosing cheap dishes for lunch.
• That's why the author should have refused her instead of paying such a large amount of money for a self-centered woman.
