A55. The enthalpy and entropy change for the reaction :
Br (1) + CI,(g) → 2BrCl(g)
30 kJ mol-1 and 105 J K-mol-1 respectively. The
temperature at which the reaction will be in
equilibrium is :
(a) 273 K
(6), 450 K
(c) 300 K (d) 285.7 K (C.B.S.E.Med. 2006)

Given

Enthalpy H=30 KJ/mol=30,000J/mol

Entropy S=105JKmol

Let t be the temperature at equilibrium..

At equilibrium

g = 0 \\ h - st = 0 \\ st = h \\ t =  \frac{h}{s}  \\  =  \frac{30000}{105}  \\  = 285.7 \\ t = 285.7k

Hence the temperature is (d) 285.7k
