AABC is right angled at A (Fig 11.25). AD is perpendicular to BC. If AB = 5 cm. BC 13 cm and AC =12 cm, Find the area of AABC. Also find the length of AD.

(I) Area of AABC

AABC is a right angled triangle

formula of area of AABC =1/2*base*hieght

=1/2*12*5

=6*5=30

(ii) Length of AD

ABAD is right angled because ADis perpendicular on BC.

By Pythagoras theorem

 {ab}^{2}  =  {bd}^{2}  +  {ad}^{2}

 {5}^{2}  =  {6.5}^{2}  +  {ad}^{2}

25  = 36.25 +  {ad}^{2}

25 - 36.25 =  {ad}^{2}

 - 11.25 =  {ad}^{2}

 \sqrt{ - 11.25}  =  ad

ad=-3.35

I am sure that area of AABC is right but length of AD may be wrong
