Relative density is also called specific gravity.
It is the ratio of the density (mass of a unit volume) of a matter to the density of an assumed material.
The specific gravity of a substance is defined as the ratio of the density of that substance to the density of water at 4oC.
It is also definite as the proportion of the mass of substance to the mass of alike volume of water at 4oC.
