Since the man moves from A in a straight line and meets the circle at it its circumference, then AC is a chord.

AC = 5 cm

A line originating from the diameter to the circumference meets another line from the diameter to the circumference to form a right angled triangle.

Therefore triangle ACB is a right angled triangle.

The hypotenuse = 13 cm

The base = 5cm

By pythagorean theorem %

13² - 5² = h²

h² = 144

h = √144 = 12

= 12 cm

CB = 12cm
