Explanation:

Given : AB Is parallel to CD .FE is perpendicular to EC.

i.e. ∠FEC= =90°

Construct a line say PQ parallel to AB and CD.

Then , ∠AFE and ∠FEQ are alternate interior angles.

∠FEQ = ∠AFE= 55°           [If two parallel lines cut by traversal then the alternate angles are congruent]

∠FEC= ∠FEQ + ∠PEC

⇒ ∠PEC = FEC-∠FEQ  =90° -55°   =35°  

∠PEC = ∠ECR = 35°

Then, ∠a = ∠ECR+ Straight angle

= 35°+ 180° = 215°

Hence, the measure of angle a is 215° .
