AB is tangent to a circle with centre O. It touches the circle at the point P. If the radius of circle is 5 cm and OB = AB = 10 cm then find AP.

Step-by-step explanation:

In fig, I joined OP perpendicular to AB and OP = 5cm (radii of the circle)

OB=AB=10cm (given)

now, In ∆OPB

PB²=OB²-OP² (Pythagoras theorem)

PB = √(10²-5²) cm

= √75 cm= 5√3 cm = 8.66cm(approx.)

AP = AB - BP

= 10cm - 8.66cm

= 1.34cm
