In Δ ABE and Δ ACD

∠ABE = ∠ACD       ( Corresponding angles )

∠AEB = ∠ADC       ( Corresponding angles )

∠A   is common in both triangles.

∴  Δ ABE  is similar to  Δ ACD         ( By AAA rules )

Hence,  \frac{BE}{CD} = \frac{AE}{AD}

           ⇒ \frac{1.5}{6}=\frac{AE}{5}

           ⇒ AE = \frac{6}{5 * 1.5 }  

           ∴ AE = 0.8 cm

Therefore,

ED  = AD - AE

      =  5  -  0.8

      =  4.2  cm
