ABC is a triangle and PQ is a straght line meeting AB in P and AC in Q if AP = 1 cm, PB = 3 cm ,AQ = 1.5 CM and QC = 4.5m . Prove that area of triangle APQ is 1/16 of area of triangle ABC.

Answer:

in triangle ABC,  

        AP/BP=I/1.5

AND,    AQ/CQ=3/4.5

                           =1/1.5

=>AP/BP=AQ/CQ

By converse thales theorem ,

  PQ║BC.

in TRIANGLE APQ and ABC, PQ║BC

      area of triangle APQ/ area of triangle ABC= (AP  /AB)²

                                                                             =(1/4)²

                                                                              =1/16

                                       hence proved
