Given :

  • ABC is a triangle in which AB = 10 cm , AC = 6 cm and a right angles at C .

To Find :

  • Measure of BC .

Solution :

\longmapsto\tt{AB=10\:cm}

\longmapsto\tt{AC=6\:cm}

Diagram :

\setlength{\unitlength}{1 cm}\begin{picture}(6,6)\put(2 , 2){\line(1, 1){2}}\put(4 , 2){\line(0 , 1){2}}\put(4 , 2){\line(-1 , 0){2}}\put(2,3.2){10 cm}\put(2.6,1.5){6 cm}\put(1.6,1.7){\bf{A}}\put(4.2,1.7){\bf{C}}\put(4,4.1){\bf{B}}\end{picture}

Using Pythagoras Theorem :

\longmapsto\tt\bf{{(AB)}^{2}={(AC)}^{2}+{(BC)}^{2}}

\longmapsto\tt{{(10)}^{2}={(6)}^{2}+{(BC)}^{2}}

\longmapsto\tt{100=36+{(BC)}^{2}}

\longmapsto\tt{100-36={(BC)}^{2}}

\longmapsto\tt{\sqrt{64}=BC}

\longmapsto\tt\bf{8\:cm=BC}

So , The Measure of BC is 8 cm....
