solution:

we know,

height of the equilateral triangle=

 \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{2 }  \times side \: of \: triangle

  = \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{2}  \times 2a

 =   \sqrt{3} a

hence altitude of equilateral triangle is 3a
