Let ABC be an equilateral triangle of the side 4a
units , We draw AD_|_BC. Then D is the mido of BC.
→ BD = BC/2 = 4a/2 = 2a
Now ABCD is a right ∆ right angle at D.
Hence, AB² = AD² + 2a². [By Pythagoras theorem]
- → (4a)² = AD² + 4a²
- → AD² = 16a² - 4a² = 12a²
- → AD = √12a²
Hence each altitude = 2√3a²
